Fluctuating FPS

When I play CSS through Crossover Games, the fps goes from around 60 fps or so when walking around and then drops to around 20 fps when in a firefight. It makes it quite unplayable because of the apparent lag. Is there anything I can do to fix that? When I play this and other source games through boot camp on the same mac, it does not have this problem.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Do tell me what is your graphic settings , your ram , your procceser , your graphic card and your os

This situation also occurs in Windows where there is a lack of ram or excessive hard drive usage (like page filing )

You could try lowering the graphic settings by setting in launch options : -dxlevel 80 or start in a lower resolution mode by -h x -w x (where x is the resolution and screen size you want ) alternatively you can also play in windowed mode by using -sw .

You would need at least a 1 gig ram to have a enjoyable experience for playing.

Its a 2.4 ghz dual core processor, 2 gbs of ram running os x with a nvidia 8600m 256 mb graphics card.

Windows has a better graphic memory control , like letting the application do the deciding , therefore this happens less
whereas in Mac , Crossover doesnt have the ability to control the graphic memory fully..therefore the lag.

You could
use launch options like
-dxlevel 80
-h x -w x ( where x is the length of your screen and h is height and w is width . this is to decide the resolution displayed of the game )
-sw (windowed mode)

Ya ..so just reduce the graphic settings . it will help...

Is it always constant when you are running around the map? I have seen problems where different parts of maps give different fps than other parts. Im assuming that doesnt happen and I think the lag is from the bullets and interaction with the decals and characters. You could try removing/ minimizing the amount of decals and lowering the quality of the characters to try and keep the best quality. If it still varies a lot, then just lower everything like Sam said.
