Steam version has garbled text

Hi, I've just got a copy of CrossOver Games 8.0.0, let it install Steam and installed Civ 4 (no expansions) via Steam. The game starts, audio and video is fine, and runs fine to the main menu. After selecting "Single Player" and "Play Now" all text is just white boxes. Same issue running the tutorial.

This is on a Macbook1,1 with an Intel GMA 950 video card and OS X 10.5.8.

Any tips?
