BG2/ToB/BGTutu working perfectly with CG 7.2.0

Running 7.2.0 on a 2.4Ghz Macbook (Intel X3100).

Using the Baldur's Gate 4-in-1 pack, which comes on two DVDs (BG and BG2) and two CDs (ToSC and ToB). Everything installed OK, but I found it beneficial to quit/restart the Bottle after each install to kill any lingering bits of InstallShield - I think this was what caused the main BG2 install to blackscreen a few times.

No need for any disk-swapping shenanigans or minimal installs, just did full custom installs straight off the DVDs. Patches for both BG1/ToSC and BG2/ToB also installed fine. BG1/ToSC seems to work, but I haven't properly tested it.

Mod-wise, Shadowkeeper works fine (yay!) and EasyTutu installed without a hitch, but things got a bit trickier when trying to apply the WeiDU based mods (things like the EasyTutu degreenifier or the BG1 GUI mod) - self extractors would work, but then just freeze up with no visible windows.

Turns out that WeiDU does its interactive question/answer stuff on the command-line, and Crossover Games doesn't provide a command line. However, there is a Mac terminal version of WeiDU (Google it), which works perfectly - use Crossover to extract the executables, force-complete the installations to kill the hung processes, then use weidu-mac to apply the .tp2 files.

The games (BG2/ToB and Tutu) run pretty much flawlessly, and 3D acceleration is working. There's perhaps some slight crackle in some sound effects (such as the eagle screeches), but I'm not going to be picky. No problems with CD detection or anything like that.

I will do some testing of vanilla BG1/ToSC at some point - if that works, Planescape Torment might be feasible...

Umm, just curious, have you tried the Dungeon-b-gone mod? If not, do you think you would be able to and maybe give me any pointers on getting it working?

Thanks in advance.

I know I was able to successfully install this mod. I had to use the Mac version however, if I remember correctly. You can download DBG 1.4 Mac from here: http://files.filefront.com/DungeonBeGone+v14/;6004057;/fileinfo.html
You'll have to select your BG2 path by going through /Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/Crossover Games/Bottles/bottlename/drive_c/Program Files/Black Isle/BGII - SoA. Yeah that should work, but if it doesn't then post back here. Good luck!

Oh and if you want more mac mods, you can get them from my filefront page:http://hosted.filefront.com/LordJeremy/1664997/
Just browse through the directories and find what you want. In the Utilities directory the program Infinity Resource Editor (IRE) will help you apply a lot of the mod patch files (TBGs).

I installed baldurs gate 2 shadows of amn but it fails to launch, the screen just goes white, how do I fix this????

You probably need to open up the config utility and go to 2D & 3D Options under the Graphics config page and check the Software ... BLT checkboxes. If the checkboxes are greyed then go to the Display page and set 2D Color Depth to 16-bit. Then go back and check the checkboxes.

Yea that worked perfectly, thanks!!!!! I just selected the 3d accelerator and all is well, I installed the offical patches and the TOB expansion pack.

I'm know trying to install various mods that I downloaded, they are windows exe files but after I unzipped them into the baldurs gate directory they wouldn't run, so I downloaded mac weidu but having a bit of trouble using it,I'll post back later

EDIT: "then use weidu-mac to apply the .tp2 files "

This is what I am having trouble understanding

Ok here's where things get a little complicated. Go to weidu.org and download weidu for mac. It's a command-line utility that you can install these mods with. Install weidu. Go to the BG2 folder in the finder and for each mod, make a copy of the weidu executable (should be called weidu-mac) and name it the name of the mod. For instance, if a mod is called setup-foo.exe then rename the weidu-mac to setup-foo. Then navigate to the BG2 folder in terminal (just open terminal, type cd with a space after it and drag the BG2 folder icon into the terminal window and press enter) and type ./setup-foo. The mod should then install. Good luck!

You hero!!!!!!!!!!!!! works like a charm!!!!!!! thank you so much

It doesn't seem to recognise I have TOB installed but who cares, thanks again!!!!!

Hi,

I've followed the instructions above but can't get the Degreenifier mod to install in my EasyTutu installation.

Can you look in the folder and see if there is a .tp2 file with the same name as the mod? Maybe you forgot to copy it over.

Yes, there's EasyTutuDegreenifier (my weidu-mac renamed file), EasyTutuDegreenifier.exe and EasyTutuDegreenifier.tp2 in the BGTutu root folder, plus another folder called Degreen with other files in it.

I have managed to get the Widescreen mod to install (although it's not working) so it's weird.

Any ideas?

Ah, this is the windows version of the mod? Unfortunately, I've typically found that you need to install the mac versions of mods with crossover. I haven't written one lately but from what I remember from my modding days, windows tp2s are different than mac tp2s. At one point, weidu-mac was supposedly being updated to work with them, not sure if that was ever implemented. In any case, you can download and install the version on this page, with the [Mac] link. With the widescreen mod, you might have to do some wizardry to get that to work. I'll look into it. Good luck!

When I try to install a Throne of Bhall weidu mod it says I do not have TOB installed and the installer exits despite being able to install mods that take graphics from TOB, any ideas??

I'm having a similar problem. Any help would be appreciated, SoA is working great, try to install ToB and it tells me SoA is not installed, even though it is running perfectly. How can I get past this problem?

Are you guys running the weidu mod through Run Command? If so, are you sure that the bottle selected in the drop-down in the top right of the box is the bottle you've installed BG2 SoA/ToB into?

Any luck with getting the widescreen mod to work? I can't seem to find a mac version of it anywhere...

There is no Mac version. I haven't tested the Windows installed in Crossover, though I don't see why it wouldn't work. The widescreen mod itself is a memory patch for the main baldur's gate executable.

Hmm... so how would I go about doing that exactly? The installation runs in CrossOver but it says it cannot create "setup-widescreen.exe" or something similar.

There's a post about this on the Baldur's Gate board, I installed the GOG version with EasyTutu and then ran Programs > Run command... > Debug Options > Open Shell. From there I navigated to the directory where I had extracted the mods (the .exe you download is a self-extracting thingy) and ran "wine name-of-mod.exe", it works like a charm.

Odd thing is that I've seen a few posts here noting that GeForce 8000 series and later cards won't work properly with this game (perhaps I misinterpreted) but my GeForce 8600M GT is working just fine, all settings at highest with 3D and all that. I haven't been able to play any of the titles in windowed mode though.

The only issue I've encountered so far is that both the game and the OS X mouse cursors are displayed simultaneously. It's not a huge deal but it does cover part of the tooltip displayed when hovering an enemy for example.
