Must Be On C: Drive & C: Drive Must Be Boot Drive

Good Morning!

I finally gave up on trying to do this by myself for the past week! I had the trial version, which led me to recently purchase the full license, and had not had any issues with any of my software installing and running until this one. The software is AstroGeometry and it's older version MagiAstroSoftPro. Neither of them work and I think I might know what is causing it but not how to resolve it, here's the gist...

It gives me the following errors:

  1. Drive must be installed on C: drive and C: drive must be your boot drive.
  2. Invalid Installation - code 65. Program is shutting down.

My boot drive, I believe is the Z: drive, not the C:, correct?

If so, I think the main issue might be just that. That my boot drive is recognized as the Z: drive, instead of the required C:. I already contacted them about seeing if I could change it within their software but it is not possible. How can I change it within CrossOver? To make sure CrossOver recognizes the software installed under C: AstroGeometry and C: be recognized as the boot drive? Everything else seems to be fine. It downloaded the software without any issue and it even created the app within the mac, but running it is the problem. It attempts to load and I get the error messages.

Please Help!!!
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me here so I don't continue pulling my hair out, hehe! 😊

Regards,
Leylann

Hi...

...for the record, you should have posted this to the following
C4 page's forum...;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6092

...the issue you're having, is rather curious ; every bottle has
it's own 'C: drive' as such (aka. the 'drive_c' directory in a
bottle), and, a 'real' windows installation can only have 1 C:
drive assignment, and is typically the boot drive on a windows
system...

...afaik, you wouldn't be able to reassign the Mac's boot drive
(z:) to anything like c:, because to the app/bottle, it would appear
as having 2 drive C: entities (a theoretical impossibility)...

..unfortunately, the MagiAstroloy website looks like last week's
newspaper being blown down a windy street, so I couldn't find a
demo of this app to try it, which I'd need do to look at what's
going on -- if you have a download link, please provide it...

Cheers!

Thank u so much for the reply Don, you're a godsend! If this doesn't work my only choice will be to buy a windows os license...

Here are the details u will need to test it out yourself...

Knock yourself out, lol!

Hi again...

...oh, deary me... you've just exposed the username/login credentials
to the whole world -- I'll contact you via private email with advice...

Cheers!

I know! I tried getting u privately but wasn't able to! Heck, I thought if it didn't work for me it won't for them anyways, LOL!!!!!

Get me on email so I can reply with the updated one because that's for the old Magi software not for the AstroGeometry!!!

Thanks,
Leylann

Hi again...

...can't imagine why I'm not getting your emails,
but certainly not here. I -did- email you just after
I posted here -- if you haven't got that yet, then
I guess hotmail is being sooooooooooo slow...

Cheers!

Did you get both of the emails I sent???? 😕

All 3 emails now!!! 😊

...yeah, just turned up... and seeing as you asked there
just what I had done... I'll reply here...

*create a new winxp bottle - give it a meaningful name

*Crossover menu -> Configure -> Manage Bottles ... select
the bottle created above in the left pane, then click on
Applications -> Install Software.. scroll down to 'Other
Application' -> Select an installer ...and navigate to the
installer exe downloaded, open it and install it ; this
much should work fine, -however-, uncheck the 'run program now'
business, and just let the installer exit and crossover
finish off it's taks...

*...now.. (this may be trick involved).. Crossover menu
-> Programs -> Run Command ... select the bottle involved
here at the top, then click the Browse button to navigate
to and select the app.exe (MagiAstroSoft_Pro.exe)..then
Open -> Run.....

...let me know if that works...

Cheers!

Yeyyy, you're a genius Don, it totally works, thank you, so, so, so much!!!! 😊

Leylann

..groovy... imagine how much hair you could've saved! =)

..."I scratch your back, you scratch mine"... make sure
you go to the C4 page, and submit a ranking for the app if
you wouldn't mind -- I'll have a tinker with it again later
on and get a crosstie together for it if I can...

..I'll get this thread moved to that forum as well..

Cheers!

Thank god I have tons of hair so it held on, haha!!! Absolutely will do that for you right now Don!

Thanks again!!!! 😀

I think I might have spoken too soon and jinxed myself. When I went to install the AstroGeometry, which is the newer version of the MagiAstroSoft, it still gave me the same error. I installed it within the same bottle we created but it gives me: Invalid Installation - Code 65. Will send you the email with the info and download... So sorry! 😥

Leylann

Hi again...

....nahh, no jinx involved - that later version is a completely
different story (obviously I got your last PM =) ... however ..
I just spent a few moments debugging it, and I can tell you what
is going wrong...

... with the previous release (v8.42) at first time start, it
launches the registration window, in which contains the product
code which you email to the Magi folks and they send you back
a serial number so you can fill out the registration code field
...uh-huh?... once that is all said and done, the program generates
the keyfile (containing the encrypted registration data), so that
subsequent starts don't invoke this registration process...

...with the current release (v8.4817), when you start the program,
wine is skipping right past the 'entry point' for the registration
process, and the app starts loading up proper as if the registration
business has already taken place ; so in reality, we shouldn't be
seeing the "Loading program and elephant leaves...this make take up
to a minute" -- instead, we should be seeing the new-look registration
GUI (as depicted on their website), that now has 3 fields to fill in.
Consequently, once the program has finished initializing, it goes
looking for aforementioned keyfile (AstroGeometry.key), which obviously
isn't going to exist because the registration process never started,
and the whole thing comes crashing down and goes into a quiet corner
to sook...

...it's that error, that prompts the 'invalid installation, error code
65' or whatever it is ; so if one creates an empty file where it should
be named 'AstroGeometry.key', you'll get 'error 62 - read past end of
line', and if you CR terminate an empty line in that file, the error
numbers disappear and you're left with a 'your key is invalid - please
contact the magi office'.... blabla, so this is the problem, but it's
a bug or unimplemented feature in winecore causing it...

...Ergo, if you're going to avoid buying a copy of Windows (or worse,
actually have to USE it =), you best bet and perhaps only hope, is if
you can get the Magi folks to provide you with a manual activation/
registration key, so you can copy it into the program directory. That,
will be a little bit difficult, considering the registration process
isn't running at all for us, and thus doesn't generate the machine
key that one would email to them in the first place...sigh...but that
doesn't mean it's -impossible- ; a lot depends on how they have their
DRM system setup....

..either way, they'll tell you -- you could reference them this thread,
so they've a better understanding of what/why you're requesting such
a thing. (in a perfect world, they'd change their software a little bit
to better accommodate winetech and mac/linux users =) ...but you could
always ask, as a paying customer, if they could change something ; else,
lets hope they can provide you a key, because afaict the program loadout
look exactly the same as previous versions, so I'd be pretty confident
the program itself will run, even if the registration process doesn't
want to...

Cheers!

Hey Don!
I did go ahead and email you those details which I think is what you were referring to when it comes to the AstroGeometry. I also sent a request for the creation of the MagiAstrologySoftPro and, if approved, will add all the details it needs, screenshots and rating!
Leylann

Hey again...

...yup. I just replied to your PM....

Cheers!
