Divine Divinity graphics issues

I tried to install Divine Divinity using CrossOver Mac / Games (both yield pretty much identical results, as described below) since while the compatibility database has no record, the Wine AppDB has several reports of it working pretty much flawlessly. However, my installation of the game is crippled by issues with the game's graphics.

The game comes with a configuration utility, which allows me to choose a screen resolution and rendering method (software, DirectDraw, Direct3D or Glide). Glide simply doesn't work (gives an error upon clicking Test in the utility), while the other three methods result in various kinds graphical glitches, as shown by the following screenshots:

Software / DirectDraw - Colour issues

Direct3D - Missing floor textures

I have tried changing pretty much all the settings in the Graphics tab of winecfg with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

A curious fact is that most people over at AppDB report that the game wouldn't run with Direct3D (long loading, speed issues, etc.), but works fine with DirectDraw, but from what I'm seeing, running the game with Direct3D is slightly more usable than doing so with software emulation or DirectDraw.

I'm on a Rev. A MacBook with Leopard (10.5.6) and GMA950 integrated graphics, and the game, having been released way back in 02, has the following for system requirements: "The minimum specs to be able to play the game well are a PII 450Mhz with 128Mb of RAM, 8MB of video memory, a 4X speed CDROM drive, a 100% Directsound compatible soundcard, and 1.7GB free HDD space."

First I'd install/reinstall DirectX through through the Crossover Install Software system, the game may have added a DirectX install that Crossover doesn't like.

The next thing is to try and set GLSL mode. Open Crossover > Programs menu > Run Command > pick the bottle with your game and enter the command "regedit" to run. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D and add the dword "useGLSL" if it's not already there, and set the data as "enabled".

And lastly, it may be there's a driver bug with your video card that's causing the game not to run. Not much to be done for that other than complaining to Apple.

IT WORKS!

Okay, so I just installed DirectX as directed, and the DirectDraw issue was still not fixed . Then I did a bit of looking around and found this thread, in which Mr. Ken Thomases said this:

If the game requires 16-bit color depth, you might try switching
your Mac to use "thousands" of colors for your primary display
before launching CrossOver Games.

I did that, and the game now looks (and works) fine. I don't know if the DirectX installation helped though.

Thanks for all the help.

(Incidentally, with the new DirectX, the game now runs too slowly to be playable in Direct3D, as others reported over at WineHQ. Heh.)

I tried setting the monitor to thousands before launching Crossover, but the game just insta-crashes before opening.

Did you see my post here? The game has done that once or twice for me, but not consistently.
